newspapers

Etemad-e Melli, my newspaper of choice (and usually the first one to sell out) run by Mehdi Karroubi's party, was ordered shut down Sunday by the Tehran prosecutor. Checking roozna.com a couple days ago I saw that the last issue posted in Monday's, bearing the headline "Karroubi Responds to the Friday Orators."Apparently there were some protests outside the newspaper office on Karim Khan for a couple days afterward, but they were dispersed by cops.

Now, surprisingly, Kayhan, the biggest and angriest hardline paper in the country, has been ordered closed, apparently just because its editor-in-chief crossed the line in being an arrogant ass and not deigning to show up in court.

I've heard scattered Allah-u Akbars a couple nights since I wrote that I thought they'd stopped, but it's not every night any more or nearly as loud.
