interview

There was an interview of a girl from a village near Shiraz that I meant to share excerpts from, but have been too lazy. The most interesting part of the interview was that she was absolutely convinced that the final goal of Mousavi and even Rafsanjani (this was a couple weeks ago before Hashemi caved) was secularism, with the Islamic appeals being used in the protest movement purely instrumental. She'd voted for Mousavi and joined protests because she thought he would give more social freedoms, namely lifting the mandatory hijab.
Has he ever said openly that he would change hijab policy?
Yes, he said openly that he wanted change. Right?
She looked to her boyfriend, who had tagged along to make sure I didn't try any funny business and reminisce about Al Pacino movies, for confirmation and he nodded earnestly.
Point being that a lot of people I talk to project their own desires onto the ambiguous call for change/reform, and there isn't necessarily any internal unity of aspirations.
